'You should have declared that. Perfume is not exempt from import duty.'
'But it isn't perfume,' I said.' It's hair-oil.' Then I added with a smile,'It's a strange mixture I make myself.'
As I expected, he did not believe me.
'Try it!' I said encouragingly.
The Officer unscrewed the cap and put the bottle to his nostrils. He was greeted by an unpleasant smell which convinced him that I was telling the truth.
2.Know better than to do sth 表示不会笨到做某事的地步;应该不会去做某事
eg:I know better than to do such a thing.我不会糊涂到干出这种事情来。
4.greet 呈现在…面前;映入…眼帘
eg:To my dismay, when I opened the door, I was greeted by a disastrous sight.
